To the Expeditionary Team and affiliates:
I know I don't have to tell you that the rogue 7th Militia is still an issue. We hadn't seen a lot of activity from them up until a few days before the most recent Expedition, so we thought they might have tapered out, but it's clear not that they've just changed their strategy. Worse yet, based on what we've seen it seems likely that they'll keep surfacing even as we move deeper into the Blighted Zone--they're persistent for sure, if not crazy.
Given the continued threat, we'll need to consolidate what we're seeing from them so that we can more effectively move against them. Here's what I was able to gather from patrols and intelligence:
-While initially they hit us (and everywhere else) in force, they've now taken primarily to guerilla tactics. We have numerous reports of small, focused ambushes on supply lines, including the railway and main roads in from Eastwick. Mayor Harker has had some recent success in organizing dedicated security forces for the trains themselves, which is in part how we were able to recover some of the supplies that were delivered to Aldgate, but the threat remains.
-They've put their Millitia training to good use--many are trained in basic field medicine, mechanics, and outdoor survival. This means that they're impressively self-sustainable and thus do not need to pull out from the field nearly as often as we would have liked. That said, they do have way-stations that may present opportunities of vulnerability.
-They definitely have multiple steam-jacks, and possibly a variety of obscure and discontinued models. Fortunately even the most stealthy of jacks tend to leave tracks of some kind, and we're analyzing those alongside military production records to determine exactly what they might have in their arsenal that we haven't directly encountered yet.
-We know that the current leader of the separatist force is going by the name "Redcap". We do not yet have confirmation as to the official identity of Redcap, or whether the former chain of command has remained intact since going rogue. The Federal Commonwealth is currently investigating the whereabouts of key figures in the former 7th Militia.
-There continue to be conflicting reports of an outside "sponsor" of the separatist force. Federal officials are encountering difficulty investigating this via official channels.
Any additional information on these point, or any new information observed by the Expeditionary Team, would be invaluable in this ongoing operation.
