Air Aeris (EY-ris) Air is the element of freedom and intuition. It is fleeting, and cannot be contained, but one who trusts in it will be propelled to great heights.
Earth Terres (TE-res) Earth is the element of conviction and patience. It is grounded and unyielding, laying the foundation for great strength.
I spent much of this last Expedition contemplating the nature of sky and earth. The Koghem believe that worship of the two is much more freeform than other religions - They are unique to your perspective. They do not teach specific interpretations, instead encouraging others to find their own meaning. My interpretation is colored by my love of Thaumaturgy.
I believe we are children of the Earth and Sky. The Earth is our Mother, and representative of Life. It is strong - our foundation as we grow and reach to new heights. The Sky is our Father. The further we pull from our mother, the more we become free to make our own decisions. He is also representative of Death. For is it not in Death when we are truly free? Free of mortal obligations and attachments - I believe this is why when the Koghem speak of killing their enemies, they say that they will “Send them to the Sky”.
Life and Death. Mother and Father. Earth and Sky. The duality of nature.
I believe to become a Man to the Koghem, to learn your Song, is to face Death. To understand who you really are, you must face your mortality.
So until the next Expedition, I will contemplate this further as I practice my mountain climbing in preparation. Hopefully, I will come to understand a little bit more of what it means to know my Song - and prepare to send the Edilons to the Sky.
